From Cells to Tissues to Therapies - Engineering the Cellular Basis of Regneration

Research at the Center for Regenerative Therapies (CRTD) at TU Dresden focuses on the discovery of principles of cell and tissue regeneration and their use for the recognition, treatment, and reversal of diseases. The CRTD meets this challenge with a diversity of methodological approaches from basic research to clinical studies. The linking of laboratory and clinic promotes the networking of scientists and clinicians and enables the bundled use of expertise. The aim is to translate these findings into innovative therapies for metabolic, osteo-haematological, and neurological diseases.

Professor Michael Brand

is Director at the Center for Regenerative Therapies (CRTD) at TU Dresden. He has been Professor of Molecular Developmental Genetics at the TU Dresden since 2002. In 2016 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of stem cell research and developmental genetics.

His current research focuses on development and regeneration in the brain of vertebrates. He is particularly interested in the question of how stem cells contribute to the development and function, but also to the regeneration of the brain.
