Understand the structure and dynamics of living matter

One of the great scientific challenges of our time is to understand the structure and dynamics of living matter.

The new Cluster of Excellence "Physics of Life" (PoL - Physics of Life, physics-of-life.tu-dresden.de) will focus on the "laws of physics" underlying the organisation of life in molecules, cells and tissues. PoL is a cooperation between scientists of the TU Dresden and research institutions of the DRESDEN-concept network.

Professor Stephan Grill, Speaker of the PoL Cluster

Stephan Grill is Professor for Biophysics at the Biotechnological Center of the TU Dresden (BIOTEC, http://www.biotec.tu-dresden.de). In his field of research, the physicist combines experimental work in molecular, cell and developmental biology with the theory of active matter to find the physical mechanisms which are based on the organization of cells and the structuring of tissues.
